the fifth dentist

I consider The Fifth Dentist to be a literary / suspense / sci-fi genre blend, with a bit of romance and humor woven into the story. The novel reflects upon potential use (and misuse) of technology, and it considers the conundrum of our desire for certainty in decision-making.

the gravity train team

In my days as a college intern working in an engineering lab, as well as in my late twenties as an application developer, I was assigned to many projects. The most successful and satisfying of those were on teams whose members spanned multiple generations. I can still recall the first technical project of my intern days. I was only eighteen and working with four engineers, two of whom were thirty-something, while the other two were in their sixties. We got along well and shared ideas across our range of experience levels.

During the rest of my career, I continued to look forward to opportunities to work on teams that spanned a wide range of experience and academic backgrounds. Over the past decade, I was fortunate to have been able to conduct interviews with prospective interns, offering my thoughts on which organizations might present the most relevant or fulfilling work, as well as passing along my thoughts and recommendations to the management team.

TFD’s Gravity Train team was populated in a similar cross-generational fashion, with individual contributions combining toward greater impact.

As some TFD team members realized, the scale we choose in measuring something may subconsciously reflect how much we value it … or, perhaps, just make it seem ridiculous.

what’s next?

Working on several writing projects, including screenplays and a sequel to The Fifth Dentist. The latter will feature some of the original characters and a few new ones. Again, enjoying the process.

Hmm, that picture above is giving me an idea ….
